INTERNATIONAL POETRY COMPETITION
2014

RULES: Please read carefully

1. Poems should bear no identification of the poet. Local entrants
(Liverpool and Preston Postcodes) should mark poems
with an ‘L’. Humour entries should be marked with an ‘H’.
Please enclose a separate A4 sheet of paper
with your full contact details and list of titles submitted.
2. All entries must be typed on A4 paper, in English, and
must be the original, unpublished work of the entrant.
3. Each entry should be accompanied by the appropriate fee
of £3 per poem or four poems for £10. Cheques/Postal orders
should be in sterling and payable to
SOUTHPORT WRITERS’ CIRCLE.
4. A maximum of 40 lines per poem is allowed.
5. The closing date for entries will be 30th April 2014
6. Please keep a copy of your poem(s) as manuscripts
cannot be returned.
7. The adjudicator’s decisions are final and no
correspondence will be entered into. Entrants who
enclose an S.A.E will receive a copy of the adjudicator’s report.

About the final adjudicator.
Stephen Beattie is a Lincolnshire born poet who is currently based on Merseyside. His work has been widely published in poetry magazines both in the UK and USA and has been broadcast on local and national radio. He has had success in a number of national poetry competitions and had his poems included in several anthologies.
His first collection, ‘Treading The Helix’ was published by Indigo Dreams Publishing in 2010, his second collection, ‘Between The Lines’ will be published in early 2014.

SWC International Open Short Story Competition 2013

Chief Judge: Dennis Conlon

Actor, author, playwright, musician, award winner, Dennis Conlon has had various roles in the entertainment industry for many years, including parts in films/tv such as Rita, Sue & Bob Too all the way through to Shameless. He is always on the lookout for original formats and enjoys writing that involves real life experience. He is currently working on a semi-autobiographical work that highlights some of the outrageous excesses of the sixties and European/American relationships of the time. He is far too fond of Yorkshire.

Rules

  • Your entry should be an unpublished, original story on any theme of up to 2000 words (includes previous publication via internet or independent press)
  • Do not put your name on your story but do give it a suitable title.
  • You do not need an entry form. Send us a cover sheet  with each entry’s title, word count, your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address. For internet entries, please include PayPal ref. number OR put the story names in the comments box when paying.
  • No individual correspondence will be entered into regarding receipt of works/payments.
  • Please include an SAE if you wish to receive a print of the results/judges report (if available) when the competition is finished. For email entries, please note in the body of the mail that you would like to receive the results.
  • Winners will be informed in December, general availability of results will be available on this site thereafter.
  • Entries in English please.
  • Winning stories may be published on this site for 12 months with permission of original author.
  • The fee is £3.00 for each story, or £10 for 4.  You can pay by cheque or postal order made out to Southport Writers’ Circle.
